[Newbies] Getting rid of Holders

You can bring up the halo on the object, then press the pink X
button. To bring up the halo (a set of colored circles
surrounding the object), use the middle mouse button,
Alt-LeftMouseButton, or Cmd-LeftMouseButton, depending on your
operating system and mouse:
