[Newbies] parsing date from string with custom pattern

Hi, is there an easy way (one liner) to parse dates from strings with  
custom format (mm/dd/yyyy, dd.mm.yyyy, yy.mm.dd.....)?
Method Date#fromString has fixed format "mm.dd.yyyy" only.
