[Newbies] Starting on the Mac

I've downloaded squeak on my Macbook Pro (OS-X). When I launch the .app, the
menu says "Squeak VM" and a file dialog box opens.  What is it asking for?
Where's the Squeak desktop?  There is nothing useful on the Squeak VM menu.
