OK, the archive generation has completed and mailman is back up now. 
The result this time is better but still not perfect.  There are a
number of messages for which the archiving program could not determine
the proper date and as a result they ended up placed at the end of the
list and therefore in the January 2012 section.  Hopefully we can deal
with that.
