 Well, we're basically talking about the difference between altering
 metadata (in particular the "creator code", which is more like an "owner
 code" for us) vs. modifying the actual file.  It's fine if a .jpg becomes
 associated with Read as long as it remains a .jpg - retaining the type -
 and therefore can still be opened with all other activities that support
 opening that type.

 In a sense, I guess I'm referring to "ability to open" as "the ability to
 consume content in raw form without modification." So yes, if Etoys could
 open and play any form of media file without changing it, that would be
 fine.
