Scott Wallace commented on SQ-99:
---------------------------------

When I saw that Karl had posted code that addressed this issue, I decided to my own incomplete fileout (grabPatchImprovement-sw.10.cs.gz) of code I'd worked on a while back addressing the same issue, on the chance that it might contribute to a good solution but without having looked inside Karl's. It was not intended as a proposed replacement for or improvement on Karl's.

Having now looked at Karl's fileout (GrabRectangleFromScreen.1.cs.gz), I can see that he and I basically adopted the same approach, and his solution is more complete, so please let's disregard mine and work forward from his.

I do see, in both, the highlighting problem that Karl mentioned above. Easiest to reproduce when dragging out a patch starting below and to the right of a text object which has a partial selection in it, and dragging through, toward the top-left, leftward midway through the text object.

Not an easy bug to track down! But arguably not a show-stopper.

And since Kathleen has more than once emphasized the importance of being able to grab screen patches in all directions, I think we should push ahead on this. Other testers please!

> Kathleen reports: "The Grab Patch tool works only if it is being dragged to the right and/or down. It will not work at all if dragged to the left and/or up. My students' coordination, or lack thereof, means the Grab Patch tool is harder, much harder, than the lasso tool which will go any direction."
