Since the toolbar can be "hidden" by bringing up its halo and clicking on the pink X handle to dismiss it, it seems to me that the critical missing piece is to have an easy-to-locate UI for *showing* the toolbar when it is hidden.  Agreed that neither alt-shift-F nor "look in the world's halo for the checkbox governing flaps" is a good enough solution.  Perhaps, instead, we should have a button in the top-left-corner of the screen which toggles the presence/absence of the toolbar.  When the toolbar is present, this button would be the leftmost button in the toolbar.  When the toolbar is absent, it would occupy that same position.
