Replace GIF with PNG is desirable, and insert it in the pr file even more, we have always problems with beginners (students and teachers) who send the GIF file thinking it is the project.
If the ONLY problem is about Superswikis' users (like us), perhaps the change in the Superswiki code isn't complicated (I haven't idea at all), I have written asking about this question to Masashi Umezawa.
