I have testes this on XO 1.5 (copied image, changes, sources from /usr/share/etoys to $HOME/.sugar/default/org.vpri.EtoysActivity/data, then loaded updates, then saved image and restarted project).

Right-click on the Etoys image of a running activity, and  View Source, pops up a etoys source menu with open (browser), windows, changes etc. 

It even works to launch source only once when already shown.

No side-effects observed when doing normal etoys activity.
