Bert Freudenberg updated SQ-529:
--------------------------------

Summary: Need easier way to add a flap (was: Button Flap from Supply Bin acts like a Parts Bin, can't add text as text)
    Environment: (was: PROD)
      Component: education
Fix Version: etoys 4.1 and showcase - june 2010

Yes, the "button flap" in the Connectors category makes a parts bin. You found a cool work-around though ;)

There seems to be no easily discoverable way to create a flap. There is a menu item for creating flaps in the "source" menu which pops up when you press the special "view source" key on the OLPC XO laptop. On other machines this is mapped to Cmd-Comma. I think we might want to add the "flaps..." entry from that menu to the World's halo menu (or maybe just the "make a new flap" entry? See SQ-530). And we should put a plain flap into the object catalog, maybe on drag-out it would perform the same series of questions as when clicking the menu item.

Co-assigning to education team to solicit comments.

> I (and my students) tried to add "Flaps" to provide instructions on how to use an Etoy.
> We went to Object Catalog -> Connectors and dragged "Button Flap" onto the screen.
> THen when we dragged text onto the flaps "playfield" (think that's the correct term) it turns the text into a "Maker Button"
> When I drag drawings onto it the drawing disappear from the screen.
> Am I using the wrong object/morph?
> I have had this problem with the 10/16/09 release on Windows and Macintosh (had it on previous Release Candidates as well, but not sure when issue introduced.
> My work around for the class was to drag the "About" flap into the Supplies bin
