Looking at the tcpdump it appears as if Squeak is sending the data unmangled. And I found this nonsense in the middle of the corrupted pr file, which suggests the server is mangling it, because there is no conceivable way this could have been inserted by Squeak, plus the tcpdump shows no trace of it:
