One of the powerful things you can do in Etoys as demonstrated by Alan's Ted Talk and Avigail's Gravity project is to capture and analyze video.
With only MPEG supported and very few (and hard to find) converters, the effort involved in converting from more common formats to MPEG is great and will stop all but the most persistent.

Perhaps the new VP8 / WebM standard would be a good choice as it would be ideal to have a license free codec.
