When using "insert characters" tile for text, the Font is not respected

If you change the Font of "Text", "Enhanced Text" or "Title" to 36 point (and/or another font) then use a script to insert characters into that Text field, the inserted characters do not match the existing Font and Size.

Also would be nice if there were a way to:
  1) Specify Font's programatically
  2) Specify a default Font for the Entire Text without Selecting all the text

The only work around I found was:
1) Set the Font I want in a "Text Object"
2) Create a "temporary Text Object" to build my string (with insert characters)
3) Set the "Text Object" characters <- "temporary Text Object" characters
