I've removed the test that requires caching. Since the future direction is  
waiting for comments from Lukas, I'll
remove myself as owner. While I'd like to see things simplified, the  
GemStone portability issue has been
addressed so this can be marked fixed if people are happy with where things  
are currently.--James
