Dugan piece...

I was glancing over the Wiki quotes and anecdotes and wonder
if anyone's actually gotten through the Dugan piece while re-
maining awake? I've quite enjoyed reading Smalltalk-80 books
(Taste Of, purple, and red) as I come up to speed, and even Liu
though it is lighter reading than I had hoped. After trying to
wade through the "Social and Political History" on two occasions,
I found it quite the most ponderous piece I've read in years.
Compare this stylistically with say Gabriel and Steele's "The
Evolution of Lisp" or even Ritchey's "The Development of the C
Language." Do folk imagine it encourages or repel potential
Smalltalkers?

Thoughts? Objections?
