(Note: I wrote a few lines about the WinCE machine Philips Nino

Yep, it's RAM and the Nino has a "backup battery" for holding it even
if the main battery goes down (but as mentioned before it seems to
fail quite easily).

The Nino also has (which some machines do not) a slot for CompactFlash
cards. I bought one 20Mb card here in Sweden for about 250$ I think.
It seemed to be even more expensive in the US (!) at the time of
purchase. I have not used it much until now but now I am going to fill
it with a full Squeak installation!

On the Nino: 38 seconds (+- 0.5 seconds)

I have seen remarks saying "Nino is faster" AND "Casio is faster",
obviously the machines do differently in different applications. Or
something. Well, for Squeak it sure seems Nino is at least somewhat
faster, but it still is.... slow. I wonder what performance an Itsy
has? :-)

On the Nino: 14.5 seconds (+- 0.2 seconds)

These "tests" were run using the latest VM (2.2 I think) from SUGAR
and the mini image from http://squeak.cs.uiuc.edu.
