QuickDraw 3D library -see subscription-info below]

One thing that I think you Quesa 3D guys should do is consider
combining forces with the Squeak community. Squeak
<http://www.squeak.org> is a Smalltalk implementation out of Disney
based on Apple's old Smalltalk-80 implementation. It already has a
preliminary 3D library included with it that is completely
cross-platform. If the Quesa 3D community and Squeak community could
collaborate on the creation of a cross-platform 3D library that could
be used by both Squeak AND professional applications developers, this
would be the best of both worlds. Squeak is available on many
platforms and the utility of having a Smalltalk front-end to a
professional-level 3D API for prototyping purposes should be obvious.

There already exists a not-yet-ready-for primetime C-source backend to
the Squeak environment, and hopefully (eventually) an Objective-C
backend, so it would be conceivable eventually to create
professional-level, standalone 3D apps using Squeak without the
overhead of the Smalltalk virtual machine.

I think that professional developers who are not Smalltalk enthusiasts
should examine the potential for the synergy that Squeak +
professional-level graphics libraries would provide for
prototyping/developing professional-level graphics [or other]
applications. Create a 3D library that can be used by BOTH camps, and
you've got a VERY powerful tool indeed.

IMNSHO, of course.
