I fear my previous response to Peter might be misunderstood. I did
not mean by my remarks to discredit his ideas or belittle his
efforts, nor those of any others. Nor did I suggest that he is by
any means "one of us" because of his efforts to market. To the
contrary, peter is a meaningful and vital member of the community.
Finally, I did not mean to suggest that any new member of the
community is in any sense unwelcome, regardless of their tastes,
interests or skills.

What I was getting at is that Peter's remarks that "looks matter,"
are not as powerful as they would be if we were talking about a more
finished "product."

I think we should be focusing, for just awhile longer, on those who
are deeply interested in what Squeak *does* rather than what it
*looks like.*

I do not deny that Peter is 100% correct in some regards.

In time, the Squeak community will need to attract those who, upon
seeing an "enhanced" Squeak will learn what it *looks like,* and be
moved to use it.

For now, IMHO, the Squeak community is better served by attracting
those who, upon seeing plain vanilla Squeak will learn what it *is,*
and be moved to make it more.
