I wonder how it got into Squeak mailing list -- since that is by subscription 
only?

Unfortunately, we seem to be having trouble getting anyone to admit 
responsibility for  administration of the Squeak mailing list at all. We may 
not have much luck figuring out how the spamming could have occurred.
