Intro To Morphic, by John Maloney

As "Jochen F. Rick" <nadja at cc.gatech.edu> suggested (off list), this was a 
firewall problem.  I can get at the file fine  from at home.  The pdf link 
uses a special port (is that necessary?), and the firewall wouldn't let it 
through.

The file is quite reasonable to download over a modem.  Someday I may even 
have a chance to read it!
