Slim binaries for Squeak?

Someone has brought something rather interesting up in
comp.sys.next.advocacy, that is, a concept called "slim binaries." From
my understanding, it doesn't rely on bytecode (as opposed to Squeak or
Java), but dynamically compiles from source binaries for the platform.
They've got it working on Mac OS and Windows, and it looks like hasn't
gone any where since 1996. But nonetheless, it looks itneresting,
perhaps
a similar concept could be used with Squeak?
