That was what I had intended by my prior post, but it appears that I 
was confused.

Off-line conversations with Andreas confirmed that we can have our 
cake and eat it, too.  Keeping the plugin with the VM as an 
"internal" primitive will not preclude applying additional 
primitives.  The lookup algorithm seeks external primitives first 
before searching for internal ones.
