I got the 2.8 VM running on my old PowerBook. Thanks for your help.
(The 2.7VM that comes from the distribution .sea is PPC only, not a
Fat binary).
It may have been a memory problem, as I guessed. I turned off
ramdoubler, made a smaller image, and presto, it works usably.
(At least, I tried to make a smaller image. The various Smalltalk
discard* methods didn't seem to do anything, at least, the classes
still showed up in the browser.)
I get 848176 bytecodes/second and 37576 sends/second.
This is on an LC68040 with a 33/66 clock (I'm never sure which number
is which!) running Dan's 2.8 beta VM.
