If Squeak had CORBA support I would be using it right now for prototyping and

I think it's necessary to get Squeak widely used in the corporate world.

If you look through the archives, this topic shows up a number of times.  As I
remember it, once the exception model was in place the guy who wrote the
original DST for HP offered to write an ORB for Squeak.  i wonder what became of
that project?
