Excellent suggestion. Of course, I'm biased since I wrote a substantial
chunk of that subsystem. Separating file names from the file streams is
a very useful factorisation. 
At Interval we did a quite nice filenaming system based on the idea
(mentioned on the list by somebody recently) that everything could be a
reasonable URL.
