It seems your interests as stated in this email match
closely to the goal(s) of the Stable Squeak effort. 
Since that project is now active, you might want to
drop a line and see what exactly the approach du jour
is:  jsarkela at aol.com or johnson at cs.uiuc.edu is where
you could start.
