What kind of pattern matching? There's a port of Perl-compatible
regular expressions that uses a plugin for Squeak; it's fast
and very complete.

Or are you talking about image recognition?

Or recognizing patterns in an AST or other data structure?

Or an arbitrary parser generator (there's TGen for that).

Or data mining? There was/is a Smalltalk product that was used
heavily by the CIA for analysis of intelligence data...
