We really should discuss which way to go with the official OS X vm. 1 is not
really an option. While Marcel's version would be "optimal", in practice I
regret having to say that I suspect #3 is the most reasonable choice. I
think a lot of work would be needed to bring Marcel's port up to the level
of the Mac VM in terms of functionality and so on (os-level events,
pluginized vm, ... ?), but if someone tells me I am wrong then so much for
the better.

Wrt choice of dev tool, there's either CodeWarrior 6 which is out now, but
costs a couple hundred of dollars, or the standard development tools for OS
X which are more or less free (you have to register as an online member at
Apple, for free). These tools are put online in Oct.

Can we get some input on this from you, Marcel?
