Powermanagement: you need "pmud".

ftp://ftp.linuxppc.com/contrib/software/Utilities/System/pmud-0.6-1.ppc.rpm

To display powerstatus you can use "GKrellm" with the PMU Plugin:

GKrellm: http://web.wt.net/~billw/gkrellm/gkrellm.html
PMU-Plugin:
http://www.execpc.com/~jpgarcia/gkrellm.html

trackpad: I use a utility called "trackpad" from the pmud distribution
to disable tap-click. And "xset mouse 2 10" helps a little to make the
trackpad somewhat usable.

I have no problems to download 2.8 (src, rpm, ...) from

ftp://ftp.inria.fr/INRIA/Projects/SOR/users/piumarta/squeak/
