UNIX 2.8 and/or 3.0 downloads?

Go to the DownloadForUnix page on the swiki and all will be revealed.

As for root, it's only needed if you want to install it system wide. 
The Squeak VM is really the same as any other Unix program.  It even has
handy RedHat and Debian packages available, if you happen to be on one
of those systems.
