[newbie] a hang, reporting bugs

a hang
------
Lost work today due to the following glitch: experimenting with the
"method source with it" search, interrupted the progress bar with
alt-dot. Got a user interrupt window, and a second one. Clicking
Abandon just resulted in two more error windows, ad infinitum. Had to
kill squeak and restart. Didn't record the stack traces that appeared;
I can't reproduce it now.

In general - whether due to my misuse, interactions with other
software, memory problems and/or squeak's rawness - I do still lose
work far more frequently with squeak than with any other software I
use.

"Work" here refers not to code changes - which as far as I know are
pretty much always recoverable - but other things like preferences,
window configuration, morphs etc. As far as I know these are not
recoverable, though it would be nice to be proven wrong. Even if so,
as far as the non-expert user is concerned, "squeak crashed and I lost
my work".

I know this should not be. It's particularly this kind of experience
I want to see exposed, even in unstructured stream-of-consciousness
mode, and thereby reduced.

reporting bugs
--------------
I usually never have time for a proper bug report - maybe I just don't
know how to do it efficiently - but if any particular issue reported
here catches your interest, I'll help obtain more detail where
possible. As an aside, I think some automated bug reporting and/or
data collection along the lines of mozilla's talkback builds will be a
very good way to go.
