It seems that there may be a problem with my setup, since I get the same
problem with the 2.8 image.  One of mys tests involved a directory with
multiple images.  It took 15 seconds for the dialog to come up and ask me to
choose which image.

The fact that it is happening on previous VMs, may mean I have something
wrong on my machine, although it is a fresh install.
