Also, if for some reason your mouse doesn't come with adequate configuration software to set up the buttons, there's an excellent product called USB Overdrive that lets you do this.  (http://www.usboverdrive.com )  I have the shareware version, and it lets you associate different button configurations for different applications, etc.
