Using the instructions in /usr/local/doc/squeak2.8/BUILD.UnixSqueak and the source in Squeak-2.8pre3.tar.gz (I just downloaded), I rebuilt the 
VM on Linux:

../src/unix/configure --enable-FFI=yes
make
make install

I also installed libffi_1.20.tar.gz - BUT I still fail on ANY calls that involve the FFI with a #primitiveFailed message.

Any suggestions?
