By the way, it would be wonderful to know for sure.  I compiled squeak
on some computer -- I think a  Solaris box -- and gnuify wasn't run
because the configuration script was afraid it wouldn't work.

If it *is* GNU-specific, I really wonder if it could be made to work
under any awk.
