A point of order here.  How many Python/Java modules that require 
meaningful machine resources are "truly cross-platform?"  How good is 
Perl support for MPEG?

Realistically, this was an outrageous charge against Squeak when 
initially levied in the Slashdot colloquies, and misses the point 
entirely.

There is nothing the Squeak Foundation could accomplish that would make 
an initially released plugin compatible cross-platforms.  Similar 
"stability" and cross-platform assurances can be accomplished simply by 
refraining from adopting the newest development versions of the system.
