That's pretty much what I had expected too, but nope, neither is 
created.  It does manage to touch Squeak.ini, as usual.

I have built a 3.1a3 variant (still using the old tool junta) without 
-DNDEBUG, but that VM didn't tell me more either.  Is there an easy way to 
hook into the debug console messages?
