How about this retinal scan display - http://www.mvis.com? It can be set up
as a HUD or as an obscuring type (I think). I think they were supposed to
have had a product out this year at 800x600 pixels.

Try a wearable ... http://www.microdisplay.com/  The headset model is
supposed to appear like a large monitor when positioned close to your eye.

The MIT Wearable Computing homepage features a guy wearing sunglasses.
