Zurgle Project Update

No, no, I am not complaining..

I Understand very good these multiplatform-compromises:
In the eighties we had all these personal computers(30?)using cassettetapes
(It is before the Mac and the Pc even did exist.)
In these days we decided to use a computeresperanto (BASICODE),
and even had to sacrifice graphics options!

The funpart was that we could write clever educational programs
and share these on tape with all these teachers with on of these systems:

The techincal part of the job was done by people of the Philips lab in NL,
where with a little adaptation of the machines they did learn all these
systems to listen to the same tape. (I think It was Klaas Roberts?)
(We even had radio-programs where everyone could tape a broadcasted
program.)
(Later Others (Germany?WDR?) even did use the -normally invisible-
bottomlines
of a TV-screen to distribute programs.)

When Java came, I thought for a moment to see the revival of an old dream..

In 1997 we did decide to implement a new educational ICTsystem with only
using a webserver, a webbrowser and "platform independent" plug-ins: again
we had to sacrifice lots of options.. Brave then, meanstream now.
(And always the danger of loosing a shaired option by an improvement on one
of these shared platforms, like now with <embed>)

It is one of the reasons why I like Squeak and even more Squeakland and the
wiki concept implemented in Squeak... And why I sometimes seem to complain.
For example for me it is easy to switch to another browser, a more normal
person will first ask: "what is a brwser?" And then you have to explain that
naughty, naughty Bill already did install that WWW-program on his computer
and that he "only" has to exchange that... (So, in the name of the silent
majority, well.. at least some schools.)

Hi G.J.,

It's ALT-v not CTRL-v. Agreed, it's confusing if you're on Windows (and it
hits me everytime right between the eyes) ... but alas! We have only a
single set of global keybindings and they were exclusively made for Macs
(where the gesture CMD-v is in fact the short cut for paste; and don't even
get me started about "option" shortcuts ;-)

Now, before you can even ask why we don't map CMD to CTRL on Windows, here's
the answer: There are various short cuts that *DO* refer to CTRL (like the
one you are citing) and it was simply too confusing to have to tell people
"when you hear CMD we mean CTRL but when you hear CTRL we mean ALT"...

Cheers,
  - Andreas
