Hello Martin and Ned,

I did that. But it does not quite work.

Colors in Menus

When I try to set the Appearence/SystemFonts/MenuFont the text
in the menu with the point sizes has a blue background. When
the mouse moves over it it changes between grey and blue at no
        obvious pattern.

The world menu itself shows a similar strange color pattern
after its font has been set to an AA font.

Ballon help

When I set the default text front to an AA font, the ballon
help shows black bars instead of text. When I set the balloon
font to an AA font too it works.

List background

When I set the list font to an AA font the background is white
(not transparent). The default text font (the code in the
browser) however does appear transparent when set to an AA font.

I have noticed all of the above on my Windows box at work so I am
amazed that Maarten reports more success. I did not notice any of
these problems on a 3.0 image, only on 3.2.

Well, I am on the moment mostly using 3.2gamma #4823 and only tried the
High Quality Font Support in that image under Windows98. Here are my
remarks on the above points, together with a remark on my reasons for being
interested the new fonts:

Apart from esthetical reasons (goodlooking anti-aliased fonts), I have a
rare disease plus an age that makes my eyes pretty variable through the day
and generally unfit to read the standard Squeak font at 9 points (on my
system). So I am much interested in having fonts of many different point
sizes that makes working with Squeaks texts a lot more pleasant and easy
for me.

Colors in Menus: I noticed the same and got rid of it again by switching
back to an old font for menus. The same for Window titles. (I supposed it
relates to Henrik's remark that so far colors and other font-enhancements
are not supported for the new fonts).

Balloon help: This I didn't notice, but I noticed something similar in
Workspaces with small fonts: The text may disappear and gets replaced by a
black bar. (However, on my system the Balloon Help IS an AA-Arial font and
displays fine.)

List background: In the Whisker browser (which I often though not always
prefer) the same occurs, and also in the titles of Windows (see above), and
I took this again as satisfying Henrik's remark that so far colors are not
supported for the new fonts. But Workspaces and other standard text-windows
as in the browsers work fine (except for no Color Print with AA-fonts).

In short, speaking for myself:

For me on my system it mostly works and is a considerable improvement for
my eyes, especially in Workspaces. Also - apart from the a few
color-related glitches that all seem to relate to no color-support for the
new fonts, and that show up mostly in the menus, window-titles and in the
Whisker-browser if and only if AA-fonts are used there - it is mostly
unproblematic on my system, and the problems with Windows titles and menus
are easily avoided by choosing a non-AA font. (Overridden, it seems, in the
special font-menu in the "Standard System Fonts" menu, so here the problem
with the blue/gray bars remains.)

Finally, as regards Ned's advice: In the file-list there is a File In tab
(on my system) that produced walkbacks that did not occur (on my system)
when using File In using the pop-up menu.

Regards,

Maarten.
