How do you define "object-oriented"?

Folks:

Thanks for the replies to this thread...it's been quite entertaining
and educational to read everyone's opinion on this subject.

And to think...this just bubbled up to the top of my mind this afternoon
while looking at Python.  I'm not quite sure why, but this big
cognitive dissonance resulted as I suddenly realized, "So just what is
object-oriented, anyways?"  Simple concept--many visions, that's what.

- It's a concept that can be applied to any language.
- It's a way of designing a language to provide the concept.

I think I enjoy Squeak so much simply because it _is_ the concept, alive
and running on my desktop.
