Well done, Boris.  So we have a non-local return issue, out of a dead
ActiveFrame.  That makes more sense given the stitched stack I was seeing.

This is stuff for Anthony to think about! I found that slightly 
modified test cases work. Enclosed you find Robs changeset with 
some additions (additions, *not* modifications of his code!). 
I hope that a comparision of modified and unmodified code will 
help Anthony to tell us what the problem is.
