VirtualHome
--------------
At Bluefish we have been working on a "Grand Idea" :-) that we call
"VirtualHome". The idea has been maturing/growing/idling over 3 years
and finally we have managed to actually produce something! :-)

VirtualHome is an "ambitious" project and we have decided that we can
not really "muster" much more development time on this as a closed
project on our own. The idea was from the beginning to open it up when
"we had some code to show" and now we have reached that point!

Well, what is it?
-------------------
Basically VirtualHome is about creating a new infrastructure on the
Internet for handling "personal accounts". On the VirtualHome swiki
(http://213.80.63.112:8000/vh) there is a short page describing the
vision at http://213.80.63.112:8000/vh/14
You can also read the pdf explaining the ideas and some of the
architecture more deeply at http://213.80.63.112:8000/vh/uploads/vh.pdf

And of course there is a testserver running (you find the link on the
swiki) where you can try out the stuff we currently have. It is a bit
"rough" around the edges (ugly web interfaces due to zero effort in that
area, unnecessary complicated steps setting up a proxy etc) but it was
intentional. Also note that the implementation sofar only scratches the
surface of the vision.

And code?
-----------
We have about 10000 lines of Squeak code right now ready for download,
it all works but some parts could of course be refactored... :-) Again
more technical info can be found at http://213.80.63.112:8000/vh/7

License?
---------
Ooops, I just realized we haven't written anything about this. Anyway,
the license is intended to be "MIT" and SqueakL (in order to make
"looting" possible into the Squeak image!) - take your pick.

Ok, if I would like to play around with this, what do I do?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Start by looking over the Swiki at http://213.80.63.112:8000/vh and read
the documents. It can be hard to understand what the heck this is all
about otherwise! Then either play with the testserver, download the
source, look it over and email me if you are interested in doing more.
We will gladly answer questions etc and add more information on the
swiki page for developers.

My normal email is goran.hultgren at bluefish.se but currently our domain
is in "limbo" so for the next few days you can reach us at
gohu at rocketmail.com instead. Drop us an email if you are interested etc.

regards, Göran & Jonas

PS. We have no idea if anyone else is interested in these ideas... But
who knows! :-) DS
