If we are talking about core dumps that depends, ulimit -c 0 will
prevent core dumps. So it depends on how your system is configured.
On os-x they don't happen automagically either, but you can turn on a
feature via the console program to at least get stack traces.
Hint mac os-x users who get Squeak to crash should send me the stack traces.
