To summarize: we've now determined to within +/- 7 months the exact date
on which I installed a version of gcc that didn't like 3 explicit reg vars
with some particular version of interp.c.  ;)

(FWIW, clotho is a 386.  emilia is a PPC).

Not really, if you think about it.  We've just determined that whichever
version of gcc Andreas uses to build the VM does not suffer from the same
problem.
