Totally agreed. I myself am going to OOPSLA this year. I will pay the 
money which supports, er, uh, somebody. OTOH, I know that I pay far less 
to attend a CampSmalltalk and get far more out of it. If ACM/OOPSLA dies 
on the vine, but replacement by cheaper conferences more tailored to 
what people are willing to make happen in place occurs, I don't see this 
as such a bad thing.
