Not utterly impossible but really damned awkward. The code in question
is pretty deeply involved in the execution mechanism. Not to mention
that the windows and unix vms are generally distributed monolithically
anyway and so a plugin might be frowned on.

I think the extra code could be added to the vm without causing any
disturbance for 'normal' images which is a possible route to making
testing easier.
