Nice work! Thanks for doing this. What do you think of the name 
TextFilter?

I have a vague notion that we might benefit from using the Pipes and 
Filters pattern rather than try to have a Stream class for every little 
thing we want to accomplish. We might simplify things by using 
composition rather than inheritance.
