The problem is that DVS has quadratic time diffing; this was more sensibly
done in Monticello (I'm not sure exactly what the complexity ends up being
but it's a fair bit faster ;).

If enough people are using DVS then it might make sense to backport that
fix; I had kinda hoped that nobody was using it anymore...
