I spoke with Andreas & Michael at OOPSLA last month about Croquet.

They hope to have the Alpha version ready by the end of the year.

Still too many changes in its deepest parts happening.

Any forking based on the current code would cause too many problems for all 
concerned.

Hi, does anybody knows what is up with OpenCroquet? On the project site 
the mailing lists don't go further than September, and nothing has 
changed since the first time I went to visit the site a few months ago...
